Quick Overview

Why not prepare your Year 9s for GCSE level Drama by exploring a text in its entirety.....This teaching pack will provide you with a full term’s scheme of work, homeworks, lesson plans. workshop ideas and class handouts when exploring Douglas Maxwell's Too Fast.

Sensation Nation is a vocal group founded and led by the unstoppable DD. Her grand plan is for the group to storm next year's Britain's Got Talent. But first they need a gig, and more importantly a heartbreaking back-story that will win them votes later on down the line. So she's booked them in to sing at a funeral. And not just any funeral either. Sensation Nation is to sing at the funeral of Ali Monroe, an older girl from their school who was killed in a car crash. Too Fast is an ensemble comedy with a strong emotional heart and a huge theatrical reveal in the final scene. Too Fast is produced as part of the National Theatre Connections programme, the largest festival of youth theatre in the world in which ten top contemporary playwrights are commissioned by the National Theatre to write scripts specifically for youth theatre companies.

This new teaching resource not only enables you to teach a play in its entirety to your Year 9s, but also to start looking at the main dramatic principles they will have to consider in a play text, should they go on to study Drama for GCSE such as: genre, structure, character, form, style, language, sub-text, character interaction, creation of mood, pace and rhythm, physicalities of a text, context, space and spatial relationships, drama terminology, voice and the non-verbal. The scheme will encourage students, and provide resources, to answer questions from the perspective of a performer and director.
The scheme is based around an entire play and will provide you with a full term’s scheme of work, homeworks, lesson plans. workshop ideas and class handouts.
