Fourteen-year-old Jake, the classroom 'geek', takes refuge on the roof of a tower block in order to write his stories. Before long other young people join him and the taunting begins. Although at first he endeavours to hide he learns to fight back in the only way he knows how - storytelling. Soon the whole group is enmeshed in the story, enacting a fantastic tale which resonates with the dynamics of their own friendships.
This new teaching resource not only enables you to teach a play in its entirety to your Year 9s, but also to start looking at the main dramatic principles they will have to consider in a play text, should they go on to study Drama for GCSE such as: genre, structure, character, form, style, language, sub-text, character interaction, creation of mood, pace and rhythm, physicalities of a text, context, space and spatial relationships, drama terminology, voice and the non-verbal. The scheme will encourage students, and provide resources, to answer questions from the perspective of a performer and director.
The scheme is based around the entire play.
