An extremely clever play based completely around the metaphor that computer games could represent real life. It's about a boy (Roddy aka Helmet) who spends all of his spare time in Sal's computer game shop. The shop has been failing for a long time and this play takes place the night before it is due to close for ever. However, the most interesting aspect to this play and one which will resonate with many teenage students is the fact that these two characters are controlled by aspects of computer games. They constantly lose lives, there's no scenes, we instead progress to the next level. The characters replicate what would it would mean to live in a computer game-if someone is nice, they gain a new life, if someone is mean they lose a life, or lose energy. Once a character dies the scene starts again.
It's a great play with two very interesting characters. There is a lot of opportunity for off-text work and interesting practical work when performing the play. It will speak loudly to the gaming generation of children who we now teach.
