It's Daisy's fifteenth birthday and trouble is brewing in North London. Across London someone has been shot, which will provoke riots. Daisy has an important delivery to make across town, but she falls in with the wrong crowd and the play explores the decisions we make and the consequences which will follow.
It is one of our favourite plays for teenage performers because of the credible characters and situations. Students will love the dialogue and teachers will love the way it has been written. Set amongst the backdrop of the London riots, it explores the culture in which today's teenagers are growing up in and the problems they face. It has many Brechtian techniques, such as choral style narratives and direct audience address. The script is cleverly written so that the audience remain totally aware of the artificiality of the piece-with characters talking about their roles or playing more than one part. The audience are constantly made to think about their own lives and choices. The text also offers some great chances for off-text exercise, especially the open, ambiguous ending to the play.
