A whimsical, humorous tale of twins who have their headteacher replaced by a troll. The twins try to get help from many adults: their mum, the police, even the Prime Minister. All simply smile at their story and ignore them. It's a play that is suitable for audiences of 7 years upwards, however, Year 7s would have great fun with the unusual style of script, narrative and commentary.
We also think that this play would be a great way to try to encourage younger students to combine ICT with drama. Moments of the play, such as when the twins visit Downing Street, could be projected, or montage shots could be used. Even the troll could be staged as a digital symbol or projection. This would be a great route in to researching digital projections in theatre - perhaps drawing upon the work of Erwin Piscator or Jo Mielziner and then looking at the work of contemporary companies such as Kneehigh or Forced Entertainment and how they use digital projections to juxtapose live action.
There's so many ways to teach this play - it would even be great for your younger students to produce a production for a local primary school. Whatever you do with it, enjoy it!
